The 18th Annual Art and Science of Health Promotion Conference has come to a close and with that I would like to thank everyone who joined us in San Diego. This conference brought together professionals who represented many disciplines and settings. Their collective wisdom was inspiring.

Under the theme “Maximizing ROI in Health Promotion: Improving Health, Reducing Costs,” we heard from the top scientists and practitioners who presented practical solutions in the areas of Financial Analysis, Programming Strategies, Practice Skills, Methodology and Advocacy

The Opening Keynote address by Dr. Reed Tuckson, Vice President and Chief of Medical Affairs, UnitedHealth Group, challenged us with a compelling presentation about our role, as health promotion professionals, in the overall health of the nation. Supported by statistics on a range of measurements, he encouraged us to work together, across disciplines and settings, to gain the support needed to effectively move our population “upstream” as a whole toward a healthier nation.

Each day of conference brought a full schedule of speakers, presentations and activities including 29 breakout sessions, 12 peer presentations of both research reports and program descriptions, 5 Intensive Training Seminars, 37 case study and research poster presentations and dozens of “Making Connections” gatherings.
I am proud of the many accomplishments of the professionals in our field and am honored to host this conference each year. I look forward to continuing to share ideas and to seeing you at our conferences in the future.
